‘cause legislators won’t divulge their goals.
One side touts new regulations to hide a
squeeze on medical profits, while the other
warns changes threaten patient care when
they just distress campaign contributors.
We suspect the final legislation will have
fanfare in the name, pork sausage inside.

A Bipartisan Benefit

Signs, contorted faces, and shrieks
at the 9/12 march on Washington
had assembly-line sameness, and
more than a slight resemblance
to Fox News’ tea-bagging events.
Talk radio intellectuals and lovers
of liberal parody were inspired,
or entertained — a two-fer we needed
after eight years of wasteful war and
wanton destruction of the economy.

Time To Learn the Republican Way

The right wing opposes
everything the president suggests.
Details don’t matter.
His ideas must fail so he will.
He won’t, but bipartisanship did.
Many liberals see Obama
as too conservative, conciliatory,
accepting of bad Bush policies.
Republican extremists ignore these clues
and call Barack a fascist socialist.
Whatever their motivation,
conviction, obtuseness, or racism,
the parties can’t work together.
Perhaps Democrats will,
and finally master partisanship.

The President Should Make Congress Vote

If Obama abandons the public option
because experts say it can’t pass the senate,
he deserves to lose liberal support.
Who needs a leader who believes what
politicians say they are going to do?
