Obama should admit bipartisanship is dead,
and the debate so mired in misinformation even
he’s confused, so he’s going back to his original
choice — make Medicare available to everyone.

Premiums would be based on ability to pay,
and deficit-neutral — those who can afford it
pay for those who can’t, thus leaving room
for private insurers to make a profit.

To control cost rules for what Medicare covers,
will be set by a commission like the one that
evaluates military bases — congress votes
“yes” or “no” on each package of proposals.

If Republicans argue that everyone will join
Medicare, the President can say: “Great! We
would end up with a deficit-neutral single-payer
system the nation chose voluntarily.”
