Time to Throw in the Towel

Obama should admit bipartisanship is dead,
and the debate so mired in misinformation even
he’s confused, so he’s going back to his original
choice — make Medicare available to everyone.
Premiums would be based on ability to pay,
and deficit-neutral — those who can afford it
pay for those who can’t, thus leaving room
for private insurers to make a profit.

Revelation?

The healthcare fix promised by Obama
appears dead — killed by a thousand cuts.
Has the president’s obsession with being
bipartisan left the rest of us behind?
It looks like the medical mafia will get
a bigger bailout than the major banks —
and neither insurance companies nor
drug makers even got their feet wet.

Free Speech Has a Price

Republican rumbles at town hall meetings
demonstrate two things about health care:
change will cost special interests plenty,
and many citizens are misinformed.
If there wasn’t big money involved, organizers
wouldn’t spend so much drumming up dissent.
If dissenters had any knowledge of the problem,
they wouldn’t shout such ignorant comments.
Our only hope is that elected officials
