Much Ado about Who?

Why can’t politicians alarmed
about elections just held in Iran
show interest in what happens here?
Our country is hardly qualified
to teach the art of selecting leaders,
by casting or counting votes.
We allocate voting machines by race,
save absentee ballots ‘til needed,
and often let courts make the final choice.
Perhaps the reason for so much concern
about riots in Iranian streets

Limited Vision Can Be a Good Thing

Republicans struggle to find a leader.
McCain, Palin and Cantor say follow me
as they wander off in different directions.
Limbaugh suggests they huddle like ducklings
under his wings, and listen.
Cheney needs help rewriting history.
They’re all so confused, no one noticed
how far the president moved toward them.
If they saw he’s really a moderate Republican

A High Risk Operation

Republicans deride government
as inefficient and unpleasant, but they’re
sure a public health insurance option
will use low prices and good service
to put private insurers out of business.
Democrats are skittish about limiting
financial awards in malpractice suits
because their lawyer friends think
it would be unfair to their clients
who have real pain and suffering.
Obviously politicians will try to

Soon They’ll Be Carbon Default Swaps

Flush with cash from their
Washington were’s and wanabe’s,
Wall Street prepares to harvest the fruits
of “greenhouse gases cap and trade.”
As soon as rules are published,
financial gurus can start charging clients
for interpreting them, and matching
permit haves with have-nots.
No wonder members of congress
from both parties are so certain
trying to stop global warming
will be expensive for business.
