David Broder, dean of pundits, stands
almost alone in urging the president
to continue his pursuit of bipartisanship.

He believes that will be necessary to pass
“entitlement reform” — conservative code
for stealing the social security trust fund.

If Obama hadn’t compromised so much,
so early on the stimulus bill, “no” saying
Republicans might still own the recession,

but thanks to his try for togetherness,
the economic battle is Barack’s to fight
with tax cut trash and curtailed cash.

He’s jeered on by the Washington Post
columnist’s feline friends bearing barely
a trace of canary on their grinning lips.
