Tim Geithner kept his head down
as he looked up at Jim Lehrer
and explained the bank stress test.
His tall forehead wrinkled as he
slyly tried to entice the newsman
into betting on a shell game.
I felt the treasury secretary
didn’t pay his social security taxes
because he didn’t understand.
By now Obama must know giving
this guy a pass was a mistake.

Team Player

David Broder, dean of pundits, stands
almost alone in urging the president
to continue his pursuit of bipartisanship.
He believes that will be necessary to pass
“entitlement reform” — conservative code
for stealing the social security trust fund.

Some pundits think Obama’s
through promoting bipartisanship.
I hope so, but he seems obsessed
with the idea of “getting along”
in The Audacity of Hope.
He thinks red and blue make
purple, but one being water
and the other oil, they make sludge.
That fouls the wings of his stimulus
plan and may keep it from flying.
Instead of courting congressional
adversaries directly, the president
