“End of Faith” – A Reaction*
My eyes have seen the horror of the coming of the war
It will trample out the beauty of the lives who came before
It will loose the fateful fire of our terrible swift roar
This folly marches on.
I have seen them in the turrets of a thousand circling tanks
They are lined up in their Humvees on the plains and on the banks
Let Jehovah’s mighty minions challenge Allah’s endless ranks
Their pawns go marching on.
They have sounded forth their trumpets will they ever call retreat
They will follow their leaders to be covered with a sheet
Will we always have to find scapegoats and enemies to beat?
While gods just laugh along.
Peace may break like the glory of the morning on the wave
But it will be long in coming while faith in deities rage
And the voice of quiet reason ‘s drowned by clamor of the brave
This folly marches on.
