My understanding is that this bill was only to get federal funding for the research. Why not let Pfizer or Merck pay for it. Aren’t they the ones who will profit from the research in the end?
I am not an expert, but I think the federal government funds most basic medical research, and if a lab does stem cell research with any but the approved lines they lose all federal funding. The research is being done as far as I know, it is just not in this country so our best scientists will probably go to where it is being done.
