Bush at His Best

He lied to Congress about the cost.
Gave most benefits to drug companies.
Let private insurers get the action.
Made it so complicated seniors will need
millions in advertising to understand it.
The President’s Medicare drug program –
sure to keep Republican donors healthy.

The Bush EPA thinks air will seem clean
if you don’t check it – like the house did
until Mom arrived with her white glove.
A rule-change tried to prevent states from
requiring more monitoring when refineries,
power plants and factories renewed permits,
but the Court of Appeals reversed it, saying
EPA couldn’t “pull a surprise switcheroo.

All Problems, No Plans

Bush is mired in more ways than one.
His last speech about the war in Iraq
suggests he knows less about winning that
than picking judges or imigration cops.
Since he puts so much confidence in folks
he knows, perhaps he should send crony
Rumsfeld to Iraq full time – plant him firmly

Presidential Perplexity

Bush nominee, Harriet Miers,
fills his loyal supporters with fright.
They expect a far right ideologue,
and are ready for a fight.
Instead he proposes a mystery who
resembles Betty White.
Asked to trust his judgment,
they react as Democrats might.

Given the President’s recent record
picking a judge with none, may be

As an ex-exterminator Tom DeLay
finds a new technicality to attempt
to kill each new pesty accusation,
but somehow there are always more.
When he made an honest living
his poisons often stopped working
because the bugs became immune.
Laws may have the same success.

Congress accused the generals of sugar-coating
the war, but it wasn’t enough for the Bush folks.
They sent the same troops to attack the Sunday
talk shows with frosting to add to their confection.
Do Republicans really think different people watch
Meet the Press than Congressional hearings or
interviews with irate senators? They seem to maintain
some views forever, while others change [...]

Full Court Press

Republicans are in disarray
and it’s not just Tom DeLay,
Katrina, Iraq, and $3.00 gas
all cause almost endless flak.
Fortunately Bush can pick
a judicial nominee Democrats
will hate and distract his base
with a vicious partisan debate.
