Semi-Simile

Like a presidential campaign
the Super Bowl features
mediocre performances and
over-hyped commercials. It also
disappoints half the crowd.

Long runs recall speeches,
fumbles: accidental truth.
Passes excite like sound bites,
long punt returns resemble
appearances on Today.

The parallels end with the game.
After the Super Bowl both teams
go home. After an election
someone declares a winner, who
hangs around to haunt us.

One Response to “Semi-Simile”

There’s an idea, we declare a president, let him ride in a float at the Rosebowl parade, and then for the next four years he can cut ribbons and give speeches to rotary clubs.

And to choose someone to run the country, we could use a test like the SATS. Pick the smartest person in the country, instead of the one who looks best in a suit.
